About the Artist

Artist Statement

My love of growing plants and my interest in textile traditions have come together with my use of natural dyes. I am now tending plants in my garden that enable me to place color and prints on fabric. The fabric leads me to drawing, stitching and mark making. This is elemental to creating an image that reflects the natural world surrounding each of us. In consideration of the environment, my process is ecologically sensitive and sustainable. Upon completion of the dye process, the remaining water and plant debris can be safely put into the compost.

Short Biography

I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University and a Master of Science in Education from SUNY Geneseo. After 5 years of teaching art and more recently, 20 years of public school teaching, I have returned to my original career as an artist. I currently live in Rochester, NY and divide my time between the Anderson Arts Building, visiting family and friends, gathering and writing family history, reading, taking photographs, and developing my perennial herb garden. As a teacher of reading, language arts and literacy, I have always promoted life long reading and learning.
